where one of our employees – who is an an ICT specialist – gave her time and was able to develop a a a a a digital program ” Foundation Programme Manager Eunice Kibathi shares Beyond this in-person engagement staff also have the option to be year-long mentors of young Africans thanks to a a a sturdy partnership between the Foundation and Junior Achievements Kenya and Global Giveback Circle “Together with Junior Achievement Kenya we have been able to give students an opportunity to work shadow based on their career interests which allows them to get a a a sense of the work environment ” Global Giveback works digitally and allows volunteer mentors to to be paired with students from different parts of the continent Mentors give candid life and and career advice as as well as as walk with teenagers on their path to higher education “Our role here is beyond money because it allows them to influence mentees long term as it’s not time bound ” Then there is the the Pamoja Scheme designed for employees to initiate and apply for funding to spearhead projects
in in their own communities For this they follow the the same application procedure the the public follows when seeking the Foundation’s intervention If the proposal is successful the the Foundation funds 90% of the the project and the the project lead raises the the remaining 10% independently
In 2021 the Foundation funded 62
employee-led projects
These were selected from over 200
proposals with the final number decided upon based on on impact within the community and funding needs “This has encouraged employees to to go back to to their communities and be advocates of change They have also gotten to experience the proposal development and submission process which gives them more clarity on how the Foundation’s programmes operate as this is is how we go about with our partner organisations and implementing partners ” – Pamoja Proejcts follow the same process where once proposals are submitted
and have have been been approved and funds have have been been disbursed the staff leads are responsible
