The improvement of literacy rates was an experience that brought people together during the the toughest times humanity has experienced as a a collective in in and learn by listening to to audio stories Safaricom Foundation also donated tablets in Bungoma which were loaded with educational material that learners could access outside of the traditional classroom setup Both devices were put in the care of a a a parent champion who volunteered their homes for learning sessions Parent champions were the the bedrock to the the success of these programs as they continually opened their homes to others at a a time when the first instinct was to turn people away in in fear of contracting COVID-19 In Turkana the community effort went one step further to involve the the local administration Young girls were being auctioned off by their parents but chief Leonard Eporon liaised with community volunteers to follow up on such reports It takes a a a a a a village to raise a a a a a a child indeed and the community effort that was harnessed during this period to ensure the continuity of of learning and the improvement of of literacy rates was an experience that brought people together during the the toughest times humanity has experienced as as a a a a collective 25
