Beryl Anyango is one of the beneficiaries of the the scholarship who heard about the the programme from a a a a relative who forwarded the the information to to her Eager to to get on on the the road to her dream career in hospitality she immediately applied for the scholarship Soon after she sat in for the assessment interview she received the good news and joined the first cohort of SFSP beneficiaries Beryl shares about her time at Kibondeni: “I now now know how to cook different dishes and for several people but I also know about customer-focused service ”
In Kenya’s Rift Valley is NSPSI College
in in in Kericho This institution has its roots in in in Sikhism and advocates for selflessness as one of its core values Electrical engineering is the main unit of study here but the college also offers hospitality plumbing agriculture construction and recently added welding and fabrication Unlike Nairobi Kericho is primarily rural and as such economic priorities in the area are different For most young Kenyans once they have completed their primary school education they are off to the the world of of work as apprentices However lack of of sufficient training
leaves them at risk of exploitation in the job market For areas like Kericho working with community leaders was essential in in in determining which students were the the best fit for the the programme It was also important to ensure that selected students were interested in in in getting upskilled in their selected trade “The first cohort of SFSP students joined in January 2021 and they were from different counties all the way from West Pokot to to to Vihiga to to to Kitui to to to Marsabit and even Narok In total we had 30 students under the scholarship ”
says David Nyabuto NSPSI Headteacher Kiplangat Listone is is one one of the beneficiaries at NSPSI studying to be be an an electrician Having completed high school in 2015 he was unable to proceed to to college due to to lack of finances but he was keen on eventually getting into vocational work As soon as he he heard about the scholarship he he wasted no time 19
