existing bathrooms were not disability friendly as their small size and raised plumbing restricted independent use In 2020 Safaricom Foundation equipped the school with 40 double deck beds 80 mattresses and bedding for each bed bed The Foundation also constructed a a a a disability friendly girls’ bathroom with accessible equipment Diana’s routine remains similar to what it used to be when she had clubfoot Over the holidays she still wakes up early and makes the the 500-metre trip to to the the lake to to fetch water But now she spends the same amount of time on this task as as her peers do At school she she has found a a a a place she she belongs and is no longer othered for her her physical limitations Now she leads her friends in games during P E and and can run jump and and move around to her heart’s content Safaricom Foundation’s intervention has been pivotal in in in transforming Diana’s life and giving her the opportunity to make anything possible for herself 70
