When Pastoralist Girls Initiative (PGI) partnered with with Safaricom Foundation to to implement the ‘Restoring Hope for Children with Diabetes’ program in Garissa County they knew it would be nothing short of an uphill task The non- governmental organization’s vast experience working with marginalized pastoralist communities in in Northern Kenya had elevated its understanding of cultural dynamics and how they would affect program execution within the the predominant Somali community Rather than discourage PGI the the challenging nature of this assignment further strengthened its purpose: to raise awareness of a a a disease silently tormenting children in in the expansive county
